From November 23rd, 2002 to August 1st, 2003, I did contract work for ES3 . Below is a sample image of the type of work I did. Among other things, ES3 provides finite element software services to the government and industry. Rather than using a continuum model, their FEA software is based on the discrete particle method where a mesh is made up of individual particles that, like traditional finite elements, are connected by springs, but also may collide with each other. I view the theory as a combination of finite elements and a particle system. My main tasks were to make some analytical calculations to validate code as well as write software.
